However, this dish didn’t have any rice, couldn’t taste any cilantro, had one very small lime slice, and tasted NOTHING like the others I’ve enjoyed in the past. Every other Thai restaurant I’ve been to served larb similar to every other (some better than others but all tasty). The larb was nothing like any larb I’ve ever eaten. The chicken satay was dry, the shrimp fresh rolls (salad rolls) had an odd flavor. My wife had one Mai Tai and I drank water. We ordered two appetizers and shared a salad. ![]() And, as a bonus, there was no overly loud entertainer making it difficult to have a conversation. What was disappointing was the food. We love Thai food and we were really looking forward to trying this place for our our first night in Honolulu. On the plus side, the food was nicely presented and our server was pleasant, prompt, and professional. All in all, a great meal good service and a nice quiet atmosphere. The least successful dish for me was the drunken noodles the flavor was wonderful but there werent enough noodles! No dessert as we left with three containers of food. I think we could have stepped up the heat a bit but erred on the side of caution. Each dish was great in its own way the lamb was so flavorful in a wonderful curry the Crying Tiger was so tender and I couldnt stop eating the spinach leaves that accompanied the Tamarind Duck. Each dish is a work of art, visually and orally. If you havent tried Kenzo wines, I encourage you to do so.Back to the reason we came the food. I had intended to order two half bottles of Kenzo but they were out of the half bottles of Rindo. ![]() A bottle of 2018 Prisoner accompanied our meal. One ding for the bar: lemon wedges? It should be a lime with the Tanqueray and a slice of cucumber with the Hendricks. We ordered the Crying Tiger (heat setting 2), Tamarind Duck (2), Massamam Lamb Curry (3), and Drunken Noodles with tofu (3). We didnt sit in a very good location in the restaurant but it was away from other diners so it was fine for us.We started with gin & tonics Tanqueray Ten and Hendricks. Our travel the world via food continued at Noi Thai at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Centre. The appetizers were good, but no better than you can get at any other Thai restaurant, but I can’t attest to the entrees because we never got ours. We paid the check including a generous tip, and left. I explained what had happened and he seemed surprised. I replied yes, you can take the noodle dish off the check because we never got it. Finally the waiter came over and asked if we wanted anything else. We finished the appetizers, which were very good BTW, but the main course never appeared. Since we hadn’t finished the appetizers and there was no room on the table, I asked her to take it back to the kitchen. We had just started on the appetizers when the server appeared with the main course. We asked the server if we could order drinks and suddenly the waiter appeared to take our order. Pretty soon the appetizers arrived but he still had not given a drink order. He rushed off without asking what we wanted to drink. Water and menus were brought quickly then the waiter appeared and we placed our order. We had reservations for 12:30 and were seated promptly. We’ll def be back though, not the cleanest bathroom or whatever, the food is awesome and the waitress was great! The hostesses were very friendly also! I’m 5 months pregnant and have gotten quite familiar with being face first in many bathroom toilets recently (gotta love Morning sickness) and I would be hesitant to kneel on that bathroom floor, it needs a super deep scrubbing, especially for a “fine Thai” establishment. Our table had ripped off stickers and rings and chips all over it - maybe a restaining or a table cloth? Also there was a good size smudge of food on the wall behind my husband’s head. Other than the spice inconsistency I would mention the restaurant needs a facelift/ deep cleaning. ![]() The fried banana for dessert was really good too. My husbands Garlic chicken, although really good, was supposed to also be a 3 star and had no heat at all. My pineapple fried rice was awesome and def could taste the level 3 spice. Food is awesome! Waitress was great! Happy hour appetizers were great priced, perfect portions and literally the best Tom Kha soup I’ve ever had.
